Biogenetics Laboratories Belly off
BioGenetic Laboratories attempts to set its diet pill Belly OFF apart from the competition by describing three clinical studies right on the product label. These studies allegedly prove Belly OFF’s ingredients cause weight loss.
However, BioGenetic Laboratories provides only partial citations for these studies. In fact, one of them isn’t cited at all.
Curious about these studies and Belly OFF’s efficacy, I researched Belly OFF from every angle. Keep reading to learn if it’s a potent diet pill.
Let’s start by examining the studies listed on Belly OFF’s label.
The first study involved 40 overweight adults taking CLA losing body fat and not gaining much weight during the calorie-rich holiday season. BioGenetic Laboratories didn’t cite this study. Even so, I located and confirmed these findings. Participants in this study took 3.2 grams CLA each day.
The second study involved both CLA alone as well as a CLA and guarana combination. This study found CLA plus guarana reduces fat cell number and size.
BioGenetic Laboratories gave an incomplete citation for this study. Despite extensive searching, however, I was unable to locate this study.
Finally, the third study showed CLA reduces waist circumference in as little as 4 weeks. These results allegedly occurred without changes in diet or exercise.
I also located this study. Its results match those described on Belly OFF’s label. The effective CLA dosage was 4.2 grams.
But, this study was performed over 10 years ago. The product label says this study was published recently. I don’t think that description is entirely accurate.
These studies provide some evidence CLA is an effective diet pill ingredient. Nevertheless, these studies alone are not enough. For instance, the study which resulted in decreased belly fat acknowledges more CLA research is necessary.
Belly OFF uses only two basic ingredients: CLA and a natural herbal blend called YGD. The studies described above suggest CLA promotes weight loss.
Still, I looked for more recent or conclusive research findings on both CLA and YGD. Here’s what I found.
CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)
Research on CLA for weight loss produces mixed results. Participants in a 2012 study lost weight using 1.7 grams of CLA daily for 12 weeks.
But, men taking a 3.5 g dose in a 2011 study experienced no significant weight loss. Also of note, this study used CLA derived from safflower oil, the same type used in BioGenetic Laboratories Belly OFF.
YGD (Yerba Mate, Guarana, and Damiana)
YGD is a combination of yerba mate, guarana, and damiana. Both yerba mate and guarana contain caffeine.
A 2001 study indicates YGD slows down stomach emptying, resulting in prolonged appetite suppression. This study also showed YGD has short-term weight loss effects and long-term weight maintenance benefits. However, this appears to be the only major study of YGD’s weight loss effects.
