Genetics courses in India

News

Indian National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) project coordinators, in charge of genetic improvement programmes of the National Dairy Development Board in India, appreciated the tailor made intensive training course organised by Wageningen UR on Dairy breeding and genetic improvement. The training course was organised from May 12 to May 23, in close collaboration between the Animal Breeding and Genomics Centre of Wageningen UR, Wageningen UR Livestock Research, the Centre for Development Innovation of Wageningen UR and cattle breeding company CRV.

Course participants gained knowledge about basic principles and developments in dairy breeding, and experienced how the Dutch dairy and breeding sector has developed over the past decades. Besides lectures at Wageningen University and Research Centre, the programme included visits to CRV, Dairy Campus, Animal Health Service (GD), Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN), QLIP and several dairy farms. Four course days were organised by CRV on various locations.

This NDDB training course on Dairy Genetics is one course in a sequence of training courses on dairy development, organised by Wageningen UR upon request of NDDB, in the context of the implementation of the Indian National Dairy Plan. The scope of collaboration between NDDB (responsible for the largest milk production per country in the world) and Wageningen UR is gradually growing.
