BioTechnical Institute of Maryland
The BTI Laboratory Associates Program provides tuition-free training in basic laboratory skills to bright, ambitious, unemployed and under-employed Baltimore city residents who have the motivation and desire to improve their job prospects by learning basic, in-demand lab skills. A combination of classroom instruction, hands-on instruction, and on-the-job work experience, enables BTI’s successful graduates to realize employment options, while employers benefit from a stream of ready-for-hire, well-qualified lab technicians.
BTI’s Laboratory Associates program consists of two components; first, a 12-week bridge program known as BioSTART designed to advance participants’ skills and knowledge in basic math, communication, and professional development each presented under the purview of the bio/lab-based industry; and a second and more intense second component, the BTI Laboratory Associates portion of the training, which provides the academics and practice in critical industry-related and bench skills necessary for success in the field. The total program term is 6+ months and includes a required 100-hour, paid internship. Through an articulation agreement with Baltimore City Community College, successful completers are eligible for 6 credits toward an AAS degree in biotechnology.
Enrollees of this program are mature, ambitious high school graduates, who have the desire to improve their job prospects by learning basic, in-demand lab skills. Many local companies currently employ our graduates
BioSciConcepts is BTI’s social venture, providing a variety of fee-based workshops to professionals currently employed in the biotechnical industry. Workshop participants represent a variety of occupations within the industry, and come to BioSciConcepts for training based on a variety of needs. Some enroll to learn advanced laboratory theory and gain hands-on experience in lab procedures. Others are interested in how the various technologies fit into their businesses or in updating their modern science knowledge.
