University of Washington - Seattle Campus

Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering
Students enrolled in the bioengineering bachelor's degree program learn through hands-on laboratory experiences. Coursework includes topics in biotransport, human physiology, solid mechanics, organic chemistry and bioengineering systems. Students also complete research and design projects in the program's capstone course. For those interested in continuing their education, the university offers a combined bachelor's and master's degree program in bioengineering that takes about five years to complete.
Master of Science in Bioengineering
Curriculum for the master's degree program in bioengineering is designed to improve students' engineering research, teaching and problem-solving skills. Program requirements include a thesis and final exam as well as the completion of at least one lab rotation and teaching assistantship. Coursework includes topics in molecular bioengineering, systems bioengineering and cellular bioengineering.
Master of Pharmaceutical Bioengineering
Students in the pharmaceutical bioengineering master's degree program explore methods for developing new drugs and biomaterials. Coursework covers pharmaceutics, experiment design, molecular biotechnology, cellular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, translation science and molecular genetics. Program applicants will need a bachelor's degree in a field such as engineering, science or public health. Those with a degree in another field and at least two years of related work experience are also considered.
