What is Animal Biotechnology?

We can define to Animal biotechnology as the use of science and technology to modify all living organisms. The aim is to make products, to improve Animals and to develop microorganisms for specific uses. in animal biotechnology stream biotechnological approaches are used either to highly multiply animals of desired genotype or to introduce specific changes in their genotype to Achieve certain useful goals, as well as to assist in conventional breeding efforts, the complete genome of animals are being characterized and sequenced using biotechnology tools.

Many books are available on net to study animal biotechnology mostly one is. By Manjula Shenoy (Dec 1, 2007)

In syllabus of animal biotechnology included several points like Animal tissue culture, application of tissue culture, stages in cell culture, techniques of animal cell culture, setting up the laboratory, culturing cells, media formulations, nutritional components of media, role of serum in cell culture, different cell type, characterization of cell lines, species verification, intra- species contamination, microbial contamination, preservation of lines, variation and instability in cell lines, hybridomas from different species, human hybridomas, commercial scale production of monoclonal antibodies.

Production of Transgenic animals. With the goal of using desire Products as human pharmaceuticals. Human pharmaceutical proteins include enzymes, clotting factors, albumin and antibodies. The major factor limiting the widespread use of transgenic animals in agricultural production systems is their relatively inefficient production rate.

Several desire animals and animal products are approved for human consumption; several companies reportedly are ready to sell products. It also is expected that technologies will continue to be developed in the field.
